55 PURSES NYC

Today starts my personal challenge to make 55 purses in 55 days! The reason I picked 55 days is because I am interning in New York City until the end of July which is exactly 55 days away. Each day I am going to find something beautiful that inspires me, then design a purse based off this inspiration. Think of it as Project Runway meets Julie & Julia.

I'm calling today's inspiration "ONE STEP AT A TIME" and it is available for purchase in my new shop!

My inspiration was the the dancing fountain in Washington Square Park which contrasted the lush emerald trees behind it. Loving geometry like I do, I spotted the hexagonal tiles that the path is made of. I appreciated the rough texture of the ground contrasting with the natural setting behind it.

After returning home from work, I culminated the inspiration and translated it into this purse! I mixed the chocolate vegan textured leather with smooth mint vegan leather to mirror the contrast I found in the park. If you look closely, the chocolate vegan leather actually looks like it is composed of tiny hexagons just like the steps of the park!

Other Updates: My internship is going awesome! I love my coworkers and have been able to have a lot of freedom and use my creativity. I also have been taking night classes at FIT which are amazing.

The reason this post is called "One Step At A Time" is because transitioning from rural PA to NYC has been quite a challenge! I have been planning an extra 20 minutes to account for getting lost, for example. My goal for the week was to not try to rush the transition and appreciate every moment. I hope that this blog can inspire you to search for beauty in everyday endeavors.

Thank you for reading about my first day of the 55 Purses Challenge and I look forward to sharing my inspiration with you daily!
